About me...

I work at Threaded Fasteners Inc. I enjoy my job and the people I work with. I hold a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education from the University of South Alabama. I aspire to contribute to the lives of children through my teaching. I have always loved helping children throughout my life. I have worked at numerous daycare's and summer camps with children over the years. I feel it will be my duty as a teacher to prepare my students to be successful individuals in society.
My Teaching Philosophy
I believe it is the right of every child to be seen as an individual. As a teacher, it is my job to do that. It is also my job to provide a safe and controlled environment for my students to learn in. it is my goal to develop each child through instruction and discipline. My students are like sponges who will absorb everything I teach. Since education is only one aspect of a child’s full growth, the classroom shares the responsibility with the community and the home to develop the whole child and enable him/her to become a mature, responsible member of society.
Through tough love, commitment, and collaboration, it is my goal to make sure every child is provided the opportunity to reach his/her fullest potential not only academically, but also emotionally, and socially.

Tough Love:

Through tough love, I plan on making sure my students know that I am here for them to talk to anytime they need to, but I will not “baby” them. I want my students to be prepared to face the world as it is. I expect them to show me respect as I show them respect.

Commitment:

Through commitment from me and my students we can have a productive school year. I want to instill in my students that hard work and commitment is very important in everything we do. I make a commitment to them at the beginning of the school year to prepare them for the next school year and to do everything I can possibly to do to comply with that commitment. Through collaboration with the parents of the students, the students themselves, and the community it is my goal to make sure every child is provided the opportunity to reach his/her fullest potential not only academically, but also emotionally, and socially. My students will always know that I will help them through anything. I am the water that my sponges are going to absorb.

To be a Teacher is to be a Student

In order to teach a child you have to think like a child. As a teacher, I have to remember that I have a college degree but, my students do not. I can not teach a first grader the same as a tenth grader. I have to interpret the material I am teaching into the language of a first grader. I also want learning to be fun. Students relate to music. The Ron Clark Story taught me that you can put any knowledge into a song. Music is my passion. Teaching is my passion. What better two things to combine in a classroom?

My Reason for Being a Teacher

I have wanted to be a teacher since the first grade. I had an inspiring first grade teacher. It is hard for me to believe that I can remember things that happened when I was six years old. Mrs. Hayford made learning fun. She would never let us move on until we understood what we were doing at the time. I looked forward to going to school everyday and will never forget the memories I made in the first grade. I want to experience the joy on a child's face when the light bulb comes on and they accomplish something. I feel there is no greater job than being a teacher. After all, where would we be without teachers?

Instill Life Skills

I think getting an education means more than just learning academics to pass tests and move to the next level. Getting an education also means getting educated for life. I believe it takes more to succeed in life than just an academic education. I plan on relating what I teach in my classroom to real life situations. I want my students to be able to apply and use the knowledge they gain in my classroom. To survive in today's world you must be an independent thinker and I plan on helping my students learn how to be that very person.

Google Documents

I have discovered that Google Documents is a wonderful program to use in and out of my classroom. Google Documents is a wonderful free tool that my students can use at home to type reports, as well as, do power points. Through using Google Documents my students will learn how to use technology and their parents will love it because it is free! Because my students will have access to this in my classroom and most at home, I will be able to assign more projects and get my students involved with educational technology.
